Pastry Cook / Ice Cream Maker

Milk Jawn is looking for a pastry producer/baker to work semi-independently making inclusions for our award-winning ice cream! This position will require weekend availability.
Our flavors are built from scratch and almost every ingredient that goes into our ice cream is handmade in our production kitchen. The employee in this position plays a key role in crafting all of the delicious items that go into our finished ice cream. The ideal candidate will be able to jump right into production with us and be adept at making caramels, candies, baked goods, and other similar items.
Duties and responsibilities
Independently bake and prepare mix-ins and ice cream inclusions, such as fudge, lemon curd, brittles, caramel, fruit compotes, cookies, brownies, etc.
Independently follow recipe and production protocol precisely. Measure all ingredients as specified and reproduce recipes with expert skill
Independently operate kitchen equipment expertly and efficiently
Prepare ice cream bases and produce ice cream according to the daily production schedule
Operate ice cream machine to manufacture ice cream
Assist with making novelties, such as ice cream tacos, sandwiches, and pops
Pint and package finished ice cream into containers cleanly and efficiently
Accurately inventory all produced materials
Maintain a clean and organized workspace
Independently exercise excellent time management and ensure all duties are completed in a timely manner
Comply with all Food Safety standards and follow Good Manufacturing Practices while handling food products and equipment
Complete and file daily production logs
Always be on the lookout for ways to improve efficiency and prevent food waste
Assist with other general tasks of all kinds as they arise

Job Requirements:
Weekend availability
Age 18+
At least 3-5 years of experience working in a professional kitchen
At least 3-5 years of experience with baking, pastry production, and candy-making
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to handle ingredients at extremely high temperatures safely and efficiently
High attention to detail
Ability to stand on your feet for long periods and perform physically demanding tasks
Knowledge of standard kitchen safety practices and procedures
Ability to lift up to 50lbs
A kind, hard-working, professional, team-oriented attitude
Great communication skills
Good judgement and problem solving skills
ServSafe Certification and Philadelphia Food Safety Certification (may be obtained within three months of hire)
Job Details:
Our company utilizes a tip-pooling structure that benefits both the front and back-of-house. Hourly base pay is $20-$22 (depending on experience), plus an additional $3-$7 per hour in tips. The employee tip rate in 2024 was an average of $5.71 per hour.
Hours will be 35 to 40 per week
A month-long training period during the week is required before shifting to an independent weekend schedule.
Position is a 4 day workweek at 10 hours per day. Workdays are Friday through Monday once training is complete.
