The team member in the Key Lead position plays an important role in ensuring our shop runs smoothly and customers have a 5 star experience. As a Key Lead you will be responsible for leading shifts and supporting scoop shop management. You will lead scoopers by example in providing stellar customer service, serving consistent-sized and well-presented scoops, maintaining the impeccable quality of our ice cream, and providing a memorable experience for our guests. Key Leads are also tasked with keeping the shop clean and well-stocked, along with other important duties. The ideal candidate in this fun, seasonal position is someone with amazing energy, fantastic people skills, and a love for ice cream. Key Leader must have current ServSafe Managers Certification and/or Philadelphia Food License.

This role is hourly, 35 hours per week. Employees in this position have historically averaged $23.50/hour ($17/hourly base pay plus $6.50/hourly average tips). This is based on tip average data collected at our shop in 2023.

Job Description and Responsibilities

  • Provide outstanding customer service in a fast-paced, high-volume environment

  • Handle all aspects of sales, which includes guiding customer experience through the offering of samples, scooping ice cream with accurate portion control, preparing other food items, and processing register transactions

  • Exhibit exceptional product knowledge and salesmanship. Share information with our customers about our ingredients, our ice cream making processes, and our partnerships.

  • Open and close the store as scheduled

  • Support Scoop Shop Management by leading scoopers through standard operating procedures such as daily and weekly checklists

  • Ensure company policies are followed by scoopers and communicate with leadership when coaching is necessary

  • Hustle to keep the shop looking clean, welcoming, and fully stocked

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area. Wipe ice cream drips and clean up messes as you go.

  • Demonstrate proper cash handling procedures, including accurate counting and reporting. Communicate any cash variances to Scoop Shop Management.

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and sanitation guidelines

  • Keep a close eye on the quality of our ice cream and communicate issues with taste, texture, packaging,etc., as soon as possible

  • Direct and guide new employees as needed to help them quickly get acclimated to the team

  • Resolve guest concerns in a kind and thoughtful way

Additional Responsibilities

  • Unpack and put away large deliveries of ice cream into freezers

  • Pull ice cream to temper as needed

  • Change out scoop flavors and update menu

  • Accept and accurately pack and process online orders for delivery

  • Assist with cleaning dip cabinet and clearing ice build-up from dip cabinet and freezers

  • Promptly answer phones and give excellent customer service over the phone

  • Conduct nightly ice cream inventory. Count all the scoop boxes, pints, and novelties and input numbers into the system.

  • File nightly shift reports and record any issues and feedback from the day

  • Close the nightly register and complete daily banking duties when the manager is not present

  • Taste/sample ice cream for both quality assurance and to better communicate to customers why they might enjoy each flavor

Knowledge and Critical Skills

  • Excellent communication skills. Scoop shop staff must be able to engage in friendly conversation, provide a high level of customer service, and talk about our flavors comfortably.

  • Ability to thrive in a high energy, fast-paced team environment

  • Ability to keep calm when it gets loud and busy

  • Ability to multitask and follow through on tasks

  • Excellent crowd control skills. Key Leads must have the ability to move customers through the line efficiently while giving great customer service.

  • Eye for detail and the willingness to clean

  • Basic math skills

  • Commitment to the well-being of the shop, the team, and the surrounding community.

Job Requirements

  • 18 years or older

  • Current Philadelphia Food License or ServSafe Managers Certification

  • Customer service and food industry experience

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs and be comfortable doing repetitive physical tasks

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and perform physically demanding tasks in close proximity to others

  • Fluency in English

Availability

  • Full time presence with night and weekend availability

  • Candidates must be able to work late nights. Many shifts are closing shifts and are scheduled as late as 11:30pm or midnight.

  • Willingness to work in our Northern Liberties shop on occasion is strongly preferred (No Libs shop opening in Summer 2024)
